I’m sweating bullets as I type, why is September the start of the summer here in Santa Barbara? I’m guzzling ice tea by day and rose by night. It’s hot, muggy and laze inducing, but it’s time to get back to work/school/swing of things.
It’s making me a little schizo in the kitchen – part of me wants to make a big batch of chili for football, but I really need to whip up yet another round of popsicles for my melting children.
My garden is also a reflection of this duality—the last hurrah of summer’s cherry tomatoes, mixed in with figs and pumpkins. So, I stand with one foot in each season, my well-worn flip flops and a bowl of salsa in one hand and my new stacked heeled boots and kabocha squash soup in the other.

And this PDF below gives you a pretty printable version. Post it up as a reference on the fridge or take it with you to the grocery store or farmers market.

Here’s to the best of both seasons.
I will admit it on Monday I wore white pants to work, but for the record no white shoes:)
I live int the central valley of CA and it is the same here…although summer started in May and will continue well into October. I find myself in the same predicament. The heirloom tomatoes are gorgeous, but I don’t know if I can stomach another caprese salad when what I really want is a piping hot bowl of creamy tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich! I covet all the fall fashions (did break down and bought a cute wool plaid blazer), but know I will barely need a light cardigan for another month and my flip flops won’t be packed away until close to Thanksgiving! I really enjoy your site. Simply lovely!
Thank you, Deanna!
