It was an honor and overwhelming delight to walk this beautiful garden in Provence with the designer and owner, Dominque Lafoucade. My heart was giddy, my arms covered in goose bumps as we strolled and learned the story of the garden.
This was once a modest farm transformed into a villa.
The spaces are a true sanctuary. You just want to get lost in them.
We felt transported to Portugal…
…or Africa.
Always with a constant sense of humor…
…whimsy…
…and imagination.
Every garden creating a different room…
…with a different purpose.
Mrs. Lafoucade artfully laid these rock tiles with her own hands.
Her husband said you can’t truly appreciate a garden from the ground, you must view it from above.
Every view down every walkway was taken into thoughtful account.
The horses seemed to be on cue, knowing just when Mrs. Lafoucade arrived.
It was beyond inspiring (obviously). It felt like we were walking through a magical dream world. I’m thankful for the bit of magic and goose bumps that still remain, along with aspirations to add a touch of that imagination, whimsy and art to my own garden.
Paradise
Stunning !
Truly a gorgeous place… Still thankful you shared this with us.
Thank you for making the drive, Dominique. It meant so much to see all of you in Provence!
Wow! What a beautiful blog you have! I happen to live in Santa Barbara as well and have a best friend of mine coming to visit me. She would greatly appreciate such a wonderful garden like this. Would you happen to be able to give me the address to this garden or its name, as I would love to take her here during her stay. Thank you so much.
This garden is located in Provence, France but there are lovely gardens to tour in Santa Barbara. Lotusland, Casa del Herrero and the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens are each uniquely beautiful and provide summer tours. Have fun!
