Flower Arranging from the Garden

Flower garden update: My dahlia bulbs have not quite come up yet this year and most of my roses are between blooms, but I have other flowers in my cutting garden that are simply gorgeous. A mixture of the newly blooming ‘Goliath’ hydrangeas and Chocolate Cosmos, Lavender Scabiosas, Viburnum and Golden Alstroemeria create a contrast of beauty, shape and color. Here are some ways I have been working my garden flowers into home and gift arrangements.

Little Vases

The ease and enjoyment of a small vase is that with just a flower or two you can add a touch of natural beauty and thoughtfulness to a guest bath, a bedside table, entry area, your desk, or even a closet. Just having one or two stems in a vase allows the stunning intricacies of the bloom to shine. You can always find a place for a little vase filled with lovely flowers. I even use them to individually store my herbs in water when I cook.

t all seems slightly overwhelming, but not an impossible task to manage in tribute to Lady Liberty. With a little effort today and tomorrow, a well-stocked panty, an abundance of party wine, and a flourishing garden, I know I can pull it together. Here’s to a great celebration of a holiday that allows us the freedom and independence to eat, drink and garden.
